Below is what I use with my life coaching/therapeutic arts and parent coaching clients to determine cost of service...but the same can be applied to tuition:

Spending money on ourselves or our children’s education can sometimes be difficult.  How each of us prioritizes spending depends on countless factors. We might feel frustrated that our “free” pubic educational system struggles meet the needs of the children of today. This might be especially true if we are struggling to cover our necessities.  But it is also true even if we are financially secure. Sometimes because of our financial paradigm, we do not believe that paying for services is a justified expense, perhaps we feel like we don’t deserve to spend money on ourselves in this way.

Whatever financial situation you may have, please know that whatever you are able to spend now and in the future on your child’s education is received by your child and the school as a gift.  Working with your family is a gift.  Generosity is cultivated as we begin to feel more confident in our decisions and commitments to a new educational picture.  Please know that even if you have financial limitations hindering your ability to pay the amount you wish in your heart you could offer; these limitations are temporary. Your financial situation could change in the future and you will be able to give back in some way, paying forward the work we are doing together.

I have created a sliding scale to hopefully include a healthy range of possibilities for you to honestly explore your circumstances and commit to paying the amount you are most able to offer.

  • Consider paying the full amount if you have access to financial security.  If you own property, have savings, have investments, have retirement accounts, inheritance, are able to travel recreationally without creating financial strain, have access to family money and resources, work part time by choice, or choose not to work.

  • Consider paying somewhere in the middle if imagining paying the full price deters you from accessing services, but you know you are not in need of a significant reduction in cost.  You fall in this category if you have access to steady income, are not struggling to make all your regular payments each month. Perhaps you have some family or other means of support that you are able to access.

  • Consider paying near the lowest suggested amount if your circumstances prevent you from accessing services due to financial hardship.  If you struggle to meet some of your basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, or childcare, you very likely belong on this end of the payment scale.  *If the lowest suggested amount still feels like too much of an obstacle, but you feel like having your child attending Lightsong is essential to your child’s growth, please contact us anyway and we will work to find other solutions.*
